DEATH VALLEY — REGIONAL POWER OUTAGE BRIEF, OCTOBER 22, 2026. The Trona-area interruption is worth noting for people traveling around the desert, but SCE’s customer alert is not an announcement that any Death Valley National Park facility has lost power.
Our network’s Searles Valley News original report documents a Southern California Edison customer notification describing an unexpected outage beginning at 6:43 a.m. Thursday, October 22, near Trona. SCE says crews have been investigating and working to restore service. A later customer update listed 10:00 a.m. as an estimated restoration time, not confirmation that electricity had returned.
October 22, about 2 p.m. update: One Trona-area resident reports that their electricity was still off at 2 p.m., after the earlier 10 a.m. and noon estimates. No updated utility-wide restoration time is confirmed. This does not establish a power outage in Death Valley. Follow the original Searles Valley News article.
Is there an outage in Death Valley?
None has been independently verified by this newsroom as connected to the Trona incident. National park services, private lodging, roads and individual utility accounts can all have different operating conditions. No park-wide loss of electricity, closure, or campsite disruption is established by the Trona text message.
What local readers can do
Before setting out, verify conditions directly with a destination or park operator. A utility restoration estimate is not a road advisory and is not a substitute for travel information.
Check the SCE official outage status service where SCE is the relevant provider. It may take time for incidents to appear and estimates may change. In an emergency involving a fallen power line, remain clear and call 911; SCE also accepts reports at 1-800-611-1911.

Editorial note: This item is a neighboring-community update distributed by California58’s local newspaper network, not a separate report of power loss in Death Valley. No service-address information from the private SCE notification is disclosed. Information is dated and is not a live outage status.
